Mental health has always been a delicate matter in our communities, and access to services has been challenging. This was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic; in schools, we received overwhelming reports about students struggling to keep up with their studies alongside psychological burdens bared by their experiences during the 2-year school lockdown.
We stepped up our work in this area with the Resilience Project using the Group Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-G) approach. After getting promising results from the project pilot in 2021, the Resilience Project was rolled out in 3 schools last year, reaching over 200 learners with mental health support.
This year, we are running therapy groups in five schools with over 100 students.
