Our Story

Who We Are

Komo Learning Centres (Komo) mission is to facilitate radical change in the Ugandan health and education systems. Komo was born in Mukono District’s Nama Sub-Country, and its presence is still strongest there, but the organization continues to expand to other parts of Uganda. Komo started in 2009 by supporting the Johnson Nkosi Memorial Primary School and then grew organically over the next decade, developing a sponsorship program that has provided support to over 120 students through secondary and tertiary levels of education; co-founding the Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Apprenticeship Program (LEAP) that has provided entrepreneurship and vocational training to over 4,000 secondary school dropouts; the Nama Wellness Community Centre (NAWEC) clinic and outreach programs that sees over 15,000 clients per year and employs 50 community health workers; and the Do It Yourself (DIY) Clubs that aims to improve learning outcomes in 30 Ugandan secondary schools.
