We are coping with an underperforming health system characterized by the lack of access to quality healthcare regarding:
- rural populations
- pregnant women especially youth
- overcrowded, understaffed and unskilled facilities
Together with its partner Mpoma HIV/AIDS Initiative, KLC has funded a comprehensive program of health outreaches and trained youth-peer counselors to address the sexual and reproductive health of youth, STIs and sexuality.
In order to streamline all activities undertaken in the community, KLC has constructed the Nama Wellness Community Center (NAWEC), which includes a health clinic and a youth community centre housed in separate buildings on the compound.
Existing programming for NAWEC outreaches and clinic includes:
- HIV/AIDS testing and counseling
- Family planning
- Malaria prevention and treatment
- Primary care
- Water, sanitation and hygiene
Future programming will address oral health and and non-communicable diseases (eg. diabetes, cervical cancer) and youth-only sexual and reproductive health services.
